The Board of Governors of Selwyn College is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Neil Rodgers B.A.(Hons), Higher Dip.Ed, M.Ed, Ph.D as the College's new Warden.
Dr Rodgers is a Registered Psychologist with an extensive history of University appointments, principally in Australia but most recently in New Zealand, where he is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Health Sciences Centre at the University of Canterbury.
In addition to an extensive list of academic appointments, Dr Rodgers has served as part of the University Counselling Centre at the Australian National University, held the Wardenship of two of that University's Residential Colleges and served as its Deputy Registrar, Student Services. Among many other professional associations, Dr Rodgers has fulfilled the role of National Secretary of the Association of Heads of Australian Colleges and Halls Inc.
Dr Rodgers brings with him to Selwyn a wealth of experience as a leader of young adults, both as individuals and in community, and he holds a vision for Selwyn consistent with, and building on, its traditions and standing as a leading university College. Dr Rodgers' past responsibility for the management of major projects will be particularly valuable as progress is made towards the physical upgrade of the College, to which the Board has committed through its strategic plan.
Dr Rodgers will be joined in the Lodge by his partner, Mr John Matthews, a former teacher of English and Latin, and a qualified lawyer, who has more recently pursued a career in the Australian Public Service. Mr Matthews will come to Dunedin at the conclusion of his current appointment to Geneva as Australia's representative to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, and intends to re-engage with his passion for studying Classics.
The Board considers Dr Rodgers the ideal appointee to the role of Warden, and greatly looks forward to welcoming him to the College. He will assume the role of Warden in mid-February, just prior to the College's Opening Day for 2012.
